A CLASSIC ENFIELD P53 TYPE 2 DATED 1855 REFURBISHED AT PIMLICO IN 1860 A RARE GUN TO COME UP

HAS THE CORRECT SWELLED CLEANING ROD. THE BARREL HAS A GREY COLOUR, AND BELOW WOOD LINE THERE IS SOME ORIGINAL BLUEING.

THE BORE IS GOOD WITH A LIGHT RING OF LIGHT PITTING WHICH DOES NOT AFFECT USE.

ITS MARKED UP AS A VOLUNTEER RIFLE TO THE SURREY 19TH CORPS. THEY WERE RAISED AT LAMBETH ON 13TH MARCH 1860.

THE 19TH CORPS WAS SOON RAISED UPTO EIGHT COMPANIES, AND BETWEEN 1863 AND 1868 HAD THE 10TH AND 23RD CORPS ATTACHED FOR DRILL AND ADMINISTRATION.

THE HEADQUARTERS FROM 1869 ARE GIVEN AS 71 NEW STREET, KENNINGTON PARK,.

AFTER VARIOUS CHANGES BY THE Ā VOLUNTEER FORCE IN 1908, IT FINISHED AS 8TH COMPANY SURREY RIFLE VOLUNTEERS AND ENTERED THE TERRITORIAL ARMY AS THE 24TH (COUNTY OF LONDON) BATTALION.

THE RIFLE WAS WITHDRAWN SOMETIME IN 1869/70 WHEN SNIDERS WERE ISSUED.
